Assistant Manager – SOT

Sports on Tap of Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation currently requires a full-time Assistant Manager.

Reporting to the Manager of Sports on Tap, the Assistant Manager is responsible for building a strong customer service-oriented team and supporting the manager in increasing sales through efficient and effective management of service, people and promo operations at Sports on Tap.

To be successful in this role, the Assistant Manager will bring a positive approach and heightened attention to detail and quality. The successful candidate will have the ability to motivate others, build positive relationships, and will possess strong communication skills.

The role is 80 hours per two weeks with morning, day, evening, and weekend shifts. Shifts are based on event timelines and operational requirements.

Duties:

  • Manage staff schedules and ensure that the floor is adequately covered, including filling in for uncovered shifts.
  • Contribute to the development of food and drink menus, as well as promotions and special offerings.
  • Monitor facility operations and ensure cleanliness and safety, and address as required.
  • Contribute to the development of security policies and procedures, and lead staff and customers in following emergency procedures.
  • Monitor premises to ensure customer service standards are being met; address problems immediately; assist staff as may be required to meet customer service standards.
  • Cross-check the quality of presentation of food and drinks coming out of the kitchen and bar.
  • Assist with the coordination and running of the volleyball league at Sports on Tap
  • In collaboration with the Marketing Department, develop advertising and promotional programs for events and offerings, and keep up to date with calendar of events at Prairieland.
  • Assist customers in planning events and functions at Sports on Tap
  • Oversee personnel matters pertaining to staff, including orientation and training, scheduling, performance management, and workplace health and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a food and beverage supervisory role
  • Post-secondary education in the hospitality field is considered an asset
  • Serve it Right Saskatchewan Certification
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Food Safe Level 1 & 2 Certification considered an asset
  • Knowledge of food & beverage industry standards.

Facilities & Maintenance Carpenter

The Operations Department of Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation currently requires a full-time Facilities & Maintenance Carpenter.

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the purpose of the Facilities & Maintenance Carpenter role is to build, install, maintain, and repair structures as required for Prairieland facilities.

To be successful in this role, the selected candidate will bring a positive approach and heightened attention to detail and quality when providing all required services. The successful candidate will have the ability to build positive relationships and will possess strong communication skills.

The role is 40 hours per week with regular work hours being 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The selected candidate will also be on call as evening and weekend availability will be required from time to time.

Duties:

  • Customer service is the top priority.
  • Repairing or replacing doors, hardware, trim, as needed in facilities.
  • Performing renovations and remodeling work.
  • Perform general and finish carpentry work, including wall repair, window installation, framing, flooring, cabinetry, and fixtures
  • Using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
  • Preparing cost estimates for work to be performed.
  • Assist in planning and implementing special projects designated by management.
  • Collaborate with other trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) and vendors during maintenance projects and renovations.
  • Ensuring all work is completed following proper safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Journeyperson Carpenter certification or equivalent experience (apprentices nearing completion may be considered).
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or commercial carpentry.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • WHMIS & First Aid certifications are considered an asset.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs, work at heights, and operator power tools safely
  • Forklift, zoom booms, and scissor lift experience considered an asset.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System skills.
  • Expertise with hand tools.
  • Knowledge of fire regulations, Occupational Health & Safety regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.

Operations Supervisor

The Operations Department of Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation currently requires a full-time Operations Supervisor.

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the purpose of the Operations Supervisor position is to work as a member of the Operations team to complete day-to-day operational tasks and provide front-line supervision to Operations personnel involved in the setup and delivery of events and in the operation and maintenance of Prairieland facilities. In the absence of the Custodial Services Supervisor, this position may provide directions to Custodial Services employees as required.

To be successful in this role, the Operations Supervisor will bring a positive approach and heightened attention to detail and quality when providing all the required services. Efficiency, thoroughness, and record keeping are critical when producing multiple events. The successful candidate will have the ability to motivate others, build positive relationships, and will possess strong communication skills.

Shifts are based on event timelines and operational requirements.

Duties:

  • Event setup and delivery, including but not limited to banquets, trade shows, conferences and meetings
  • Pre-inspection of all inventories, equipment and material required for each event and reporting of deficiencies; assist with verifying inventory counts for post event reports (i.e. number of tables, chairs, drape, etc.)
  • Assist management to achieve high morale and help to resolve any staff related problems or complaints
  • Provide frontline direction and supervision to ensure that buildings and events are set up as requested and continually monitor the events
  • Respond to unplanned situations and change requirements to ensure that we provide the best customer service possible. Work with the production team to find reasonable solutions and identify risk areas in advance
  • Establish goals, priorities and strategies for safe and efficient event set ups
  • Open facility for renters, exhibitors and public as scheduled
  • Assign Operations or Custodial Services Personnel to respond to electrical, temperature, lighting, and access problems
  • Continually monitor traffic flow, security and safety (interior and exterior of World Trade Center Saskatoon buildings) and take immediate action to repair or remove hazards (i.e. snow removal, sanding, sweeping, cleaning wet floors and proper signage); document and report building deficiencies
  • Investigate incidents and prepare incident reports if required; report incidents to appropriate Prairieland personnel and security
  • Ensure facility is secure at the end of the day
  • Provide excellent customer service to all clients and customers aided by awareness of event services and detailed information regarding each show
  • Completion of all information necessary for billing and recording of all services provided
  • Monitor areas for upkeep and appearance within all facilities, outside property and inventory
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience including experience in orientating, training and coaching of employees
  • Ability to follow deadlines and accomplish quick event turnovers

Ag Center Personnel (Casual)

The Prairieland Ag Center of Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation currently requires casual Ag Center Personnel.

The Prairieland Ag Center is a year-round multi-purpose facility that caters to livestock shows and sales, equestrian events, and a variety of other agricultural uses.

The work schedule will vary from week to week depending upon the events schedule. Evening and weekend shifts will be required.

Duties:

  • Prepare facility to host livestock events and events clean up.
  • Set up and take down penning, stalls, and head stalls as required to accommodate livestock for events.
  • Maintain cleanliness of building and grounds.
  • Point of contact for client during events.
  • Work with Operations Department to facilitate maintenance of equipment and building.
  • Supervising of crew for set-up and clean-up of livestock events

Casual Cook

The World Trade Center of Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation currently requires a casual Cook to join our team!

The Cook will contribute to extraordinary culinary events, superior first-rate customer service, and a positive, safe working environment. Under the direction of the Executive Chef, the Cook will prepare food as part of a team, for events as large as 5,000 people.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and cook a wide variety of items including appetizers, salads, soups, hot meals, and desserts following established recipes and guidelines.
  • Ensure that all food is prepared to high-quality standards, paying attention to consistency of taste, presentation, and portion size.
  • Operate kitchen utensils and equipment according to safe work procedures.
  • Adhere to proper safe food handling, storage, and cleaning practices to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Maintain positive, open communication with Food and Beverage team members to facilitate smooth kitchen operations, including coordination of timing of food preparation.
  • Contribute to a positive customer experience by executing orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Contribute to menu and product research and development.
  • Contribute to managing inventory of supplies and ingredients. This includes but is not limited to receiving, properly storing, and identifying needed supplies and ingredients.
  • Contribute to training team members on safe work procedures, food handling, and equipment usage.

  • Monitor equipment performance and report any safety concerns.

  • Minimum of one year of commercial cooking experience. Experience cooking for banquets is considered an asset.
